Refreshing Blueberry Mojito Recipe
A blueberry mojito is what happens when you take a classic cocktail and make it even better. The sweet-tart blueberries add depth to the usual lime and mint combo, plus they turn the drink a gorgeous purple color that looks way fancier than the effort involved. .

I started making these a few years ago when my neighbor’s blueberry bush went crazy, and now it’s my go-to summer drink. The fresh berries work best, but frozen ones are totally fine in a pinch – just let them thaw first. These are perfect for lazy afternoons by the pool or when you’re having friends over for a barbecue. Make them by the glass or scale up for a pitcher if you’re serving a crowd.
What you need for Blueberry Mojito
Ingredients You’ll Need For This Recipe
- 2 oz white rum
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 8-10 fresh mint leaves
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- 1 oz simple syrup
- Club soda
- Ice cubes
- Extra blueberries and mint sprigs for garnish
How to make Blueberry Mojito
This drink comes together in about 5 minutes and makes one cocktail. I like to muddle everything in the glass I’m serving it in – saves on dishes and keeps things simple!
1. Take about 3/4 cup of fresh blueberries and drop them into a sturdy highball glass. Give them a gentle press with your muddler – you want to break them up just enough to release their juice, but not completely crush them into a pulp. You’ll know you’ve done enough when you see the deep purple juice starting to pool at the bottom.
2. Add mint leaves and very gently muddle them with the blueberries. You just want to press enough to release the oils – if you muddle mint too aggressively, it’ll turn bitter. You’ll smell that wonderful fresh mint aroma when you’ve done enough.
3. Pour in the simple syrup and fresh lime juice. Give everything a quick stir to combine – this helps distribute all those lovely blueberry and mint flavors before adding the alcohol.
4. Add the rum and fill the glass about 2/3 full with ice cubes. Using a long spoon, stir everything together for about 15-20 seconds to properly chill the drink and combine all the flavors.
5. Top off with club soda until the glass is nearly full – usually about 2-3 oz depending on your glass size. Give it one final gentle stir to combine.
6. For garnish, drop in a few fresh blueberries (they’ll bob around nicely in the drink) and add a sprig of mint. Give the mint a little clap between your palms first – this releases those aromatic oils so you get that fresh mint smell with every sip.

Your drink should be a beautiful purple color with flecks of blueberry and mint throughout. Take a quick taste – you should get the sweetness from the berries and syrup first, followed by the mint and lime, with the rum warming it all up at the end.
🔍 Recipe Notes & Tips
- Skip fancy muddlers – the back of a wooden spoon works fine
- Fresh blueberries are best, but thawed frozen ones work in a pinch
- Use white rum – dark rum will muddy the pretty purple color
- No simple syrup? Mix equal parts sugar and hot water, stir till dissolved
- Mint stems are bitter – strip leaves from stems before muddling
🍽️ Serving Suggestions
- Virgin version: Skip rum, double the club soda
- Pitcher version: Multiply recipe by 6, but add club soda per glass
- Frozen version: Blend with crushed ice for a slushy texture
- Spicy kick: Add 2-3 thin jalapeño slices while muddling
🎯 Make it Work for
- Brunch: Make it lighter with prosecco instead of rum
- Party punch: Pre-mix everything except club soda, add when serving
- Fancy event: Serve in champagne flutes with floating berries
- Summer BBQ: Make in mason jars for easy transport
📦 Storage & Leftovers
- Best served fresh – doesn’t store well once mixed
- Prep ahead: Muddle fruit/mint/syrup up to 2 hours ahead, keep chilled
- Leftover simple syrup: Keeps 2 weeks in fridge
- Extra berries: Freeze for future cocktails
